Partner & Head of Architecture,
Erikjan Vermeulen is partner and head of architecture at Amsterdam-based architecture and interior design firm, concrete. concrete believes that places and buildings should be formed from the inside out: first think about live and program, then design the spaces around to accommodate, and conclude with the buildings. Being the creators of (among other projects) citizenM hotels, Urby living and Zoku, concrete tries to create new hybrid spaces and places that are able to fulfill the ever-changing needs of people. concrete was named Dutch architecture firm of the year in 2012, with its work characterised as innovative, provocative and witty (without ever compromising functionality). More recently, concrete has won the Future Living AIT Award (2018), and the Architizer A+ award for it’s Urby Jersey City project. Urby Harrison won the INSIDE/WAF award in best restaurant/bar category, proof for concrete that their way of thinking works.
